Contemporary Lock Assembly ID
« on: July 04, 2013, 04:39:44 AM »
Where could I find ID of who assembled some of the locks that I own? The most recent is a Small Queen Anne lock with a "W" stamped inside. Very nice work putting it together. Sparks Great.
I know I have a few that Pete Allen put together; also nice, just curious if there is a known list of stamped initials as to who assembled for any lock manufacturer.

Thanks,
Jeff

Over the years there have been many different assemblers, either working on their own or for one of the lock makers, such as Chambers, L&R, Davis and others.
Those makers are surely familiar with the markings of the assemblers that worked directly for them.

On the other hand, Silers were assembled by lots of folks, often working on their own.  Even so, some of those guys, like Herman Stone, and Walter Cain put together so many locks that they are also well known.

As far as a actual list, I don't know of one.
