Briggs built Southern Rifle

I asked Terry Briggs to assemble a gun from a parts set. Most of the parts were from 30 or more years back. I wanted a Southern Mountain style gun that would be a flint to percussion conversion. Lollipop tang and toe plate with a brass 3/4 moon around the termination. Nosecap mounted from underneath. A long bannana patchbox. About 3/8" of offset with a forward cheekpiece was another request. Really wanted a scrape finish... yep......I am a PITA.
When he called and told me to pick her up, I figured she would be wrapped around a tree a the bottom of his driveway...

Now there's a southern rifle that talks to me. Terry deserves a jug of 'shine for a tip.

Very nice! I especially like the banana patchbox and trigger guard. Also looks very business like; an original "black rifle". I also would be pleased with it.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Mike...
He really did! The early Green Mtn. Barrel was slightly swamped, the Roller set trigger was inset, and he made the sights.
Best part is.... I get to shoot it tomorrow with Terry and his neighbor - Roy Stroh.

Love these no-nonsense working guns. My Tennessee is my favorite for hunting. There is just something about them that begs to be carried in the woods. Great rifle, even if it is a "cap" gun.
