Howdy all,

Do you know history and veracity of White/green or red blanket with multi small black stripes  ?

It would be old patterns before those like points blankets 2 stripes....

Thanks.......

The Ganagaro blanket is the best choice.

Now that blanket is supposedly made from a blanket fragment from a 17th Century Iroquois village, but better analysis of the fragment shows that the actual color scheme was white with alternating red and blue stripes.

But there are a number of period images that show white with multiple red stripes running the length.

OK Luke for this details,

Do you think that the black striped White model would be good for reenactment, same made by Early witney ?

I personally do not have in my hands any documentation that says white with black stripes running the length of the blanket is correct.  Does not mean that it is not correct, I just don't have that information in my files........

That being said, I do have a Red Lachine that gets used when I go skinning, and occasionally at reenactments, but its an extra blanket that gets throw in the jeep just in case.

Between my Rob Stone, matchcoat, buffalo robe and Garagano, Im pretty well covered

I understand,

Nothing says that it is good or bad, I've done searches on google and there's nothing specific about this...

I asked the question to NORDWEST TRADERS, you know this blanket trader I presume,   he could  say nothing...

For the moment I have one 6 points red triped black and one 4 points white triped black....

I write to you from France where I do old west reenactment since more 30 years........

The Ganagarro blanket (white with red stripes throughout is based on the original blanket fragment in the collections of the Museum of the Fur Trade in Chadron, NE.  Richard Early, chairman of Early & Marriot of Witney, England came to the museum in 1973 and drafted the pattern for the reproduction of this 17th Dutch trade blanket.  Early's made at least 5 different trade blankets to commemorate the American Bicentennial.
The Lachine was also one that was made and it has the alternating red and blue stripes.  I do not know where the original is that this was based one.
The oldest point blanket in the world is at the Museum of the Fur Trade. It was carried by a soldier in the Revolutionary War, it is white with black (indigo) bars and 3 points. You can see it on the museum's website, www.furtrade.org
One of the 1976 blankets is white with a 3" black bar with a narrow bar above and below on each end. It has 4 short points. It is the only one of the 1976 reproductions that has points.
All of the blankets they did are great for re-enacting.  The Museum of the Fur Trade has one of the Ganagarro's for sale in the Museum Shop--the first one I have seen for many years.
I bought several of these blankets in 1976.
Good luck and hope this helps.

The white w/ red stripes was still there a week ago. Price was around $600 if I remember right. The place was awesome. Hope to go back some day.
