wood patchbox lid dimensions
« on: August 10, 2013, 06:04:19 PM »
Morning all, I am at the point of shaping the patchbox lid on my kit. Its a JP Beck kit if that would make any difference. I have never taken any dimensions from originals so i hope maybe you all can give some ideas. Mainly how big is too big and how small is too small. Not trying to copy anything in particular.

i could also use a tutorial on shaping. Its my first time taking this on and i am cautious. But i could not find anything in the archives with pics.

Thanks all for the help. This forum has been a fantastic help to me.

Just draw some patterns on a piece of paper and lay it on the stock.  A patchbox too big looks funny, so does one too small.  There is a good tutorial here:

Thanks for that reference Coryjoe.  I had completely forgotten about Jerry Crawford's tutorial.  It is great.  Also see one on Hoot Al's website.
