That is very impressive. Am I correct in thinking that you made it by folding a strap around a mandrel to form the eye the old way, rather than slitting a bar? How did you attach the bowl?

Hi Elnathan; No, Just a TOTW head and haft. Sorry if I gave the impression that I did it from scratch. Would love to try doing it that way though. Maybe one day.

Ha! Not your fault. I had forgotten for a moment that such heads were available. I have been thinking lately about trying to forge a belt axe and how I might go about it, so when I saw your post I just jumped to the conclusion that you had forged it.

You blue first, then put it in the bleach. The bleach reacts to the blue. Helps if the bleach is warmed.

Looks good Anthony, nice job overall. The way I antique my steel is as follows: Begin with a mixture of water and bleach, the more bleach the heavier the pitting, bring to a boil, insert your steel, ( I like to suspend it in the mixture on a hanger) check every half hour or so. Pull the piece out of the mixture after you have a good heavy rust scale, let cool, card off with a wire wheel or a brilo pad, apply a little cold blue and polish with 0000 steel wool. you'll be surprised the look you will get. Have fun.
