In the 80's I had no trouble buying potassium chlorate ( a white powder) from the pharmisist along with sublimed sulfer. He asked what it was for and I said for making my own percussion caps for my cap-lock muzzleloading rifle. He said - no problem and asked what the formula was - I told him and he said "have fun". I understand the chlorate is a bit sensitive so suggest no one try it but it worked for me. Maybe my ground up briquettes stabilized the formual some - maybe not. it definitely isn't for loading inside a barrel - a little quick.
