Source for Swiss bp in Canada?
« on: September 12, 2013, 01:28:31 AM »
Fellow Canadians,

are any of you aware of a source for Swiss black powder in Canada. I have a couple of sources for Goex here in Ontario where I am, but can't even find anything with google searches for Swiss.

Thanks in advance

I just bought ten pounds from Becky in Saskatoon.  Pricey - sure hope it is worth it.  Saving it to feed to my Sharps.  I'll get more info if you want to give her a call.

Thanks for the offer but was hoping for somewhere I could drive to - shipping costs usually push the total cost above what I'm willing to pay.

Good observation.  The powder I just got cost me $41 per can by the time I paid my share of the shipping cost.

There is just No Way will I pay $42.00 a lb. for powder, I'll shoot a substitute first. I just bought 5 lbs. of Ole Enysford that was $123.00 including hazmat and shipping. I would have bought 10 lbs. but wanted to see how it shoots before I did. I have shot Swiss an liked it a lot but they want too much money for it now.

You wouldn't be the first to say I was crazy, but "it keeps me from going' insane!"  I bought 1 1/2 Fg Swiss to try for better accuracy in my Sharps Old Reliable.  I also have a case of GOEX FFg Cartridge grade powder to try.  It sure works well in my .62 Hawken.

Oh-------man I am about to have the big one! I would have to save that to shoot at the next Tyrannosaurus rex that I run across hunting ;D

It was pricey - but lesson learned.  I'm glad my Sharps only uses 60gr. per poke.

I found out long ago, that if you want to be competitive in the 1000 yd matches, you had better use the very best load that you have for your rifle.  I not only buy the best powder, ie what my rifle likes the best, I also buy all I can of the same lot #.   Mixing cans of different lot #'s can ruin everything !  In my round ball guns I have found very accurate loads using Goex but in my Sharps 45-100,  Swiss is king;  One lot of Goex cartridge managed a close 2nd.  I still have some just in case I need it .
