I got to thinking about Herb and his cap lock Hawken rifle using the Old Eynsford Powder.  Can this powder actually be used in a flintlock without a duplex load of say 10 to 20 grains of 3fg Goex?

Over on some hunting forum, some guy is claiming he shoots it in his flintlock without a duplex load, and was also using it to self prime his lock, but finally went to 4fg to prime with.

Anyone here test this in a flintlock?

I'll probably never use it since I've always been happy with the Goex, but I was just wondering.

I don't see why not, it is real black powder made to compete with Swiss.

Oh, I thought it was one of those new synthetic powders.  Thanks drago. :)

I've been shooting it in my flintlock, goes off every time. It is real black powder made by Goex to compete with Swiss Powder. I bought a 5lb box from PowderInc. at a little over $23.00 a pound. At a 10lb. order the price goes down to around $19.00.

Here is Olde Eynsford 2F in my .58 flint Hawken fullstock I built.  The bottom target was with charges of 100 grains of OE 2F measured in a measure that holds exactly 100 grains of Goex 2F. Those five shots averaged 1707 fps with a spread of 53 fps, the same as the top measure made to hold 100 grains of OE 2F.  The three shots to the right are not part of this group.

Thanks for the info Herb.  Next time I order some Goex, I might just snag on to some of that OE.  Looks as if it gave you good results from that Hawken flintlock.:)
