back action lock
« on: October 09, 2013, 07:46:55 AM »
I will soon be building a smoothbore single barrel with a back action lock.  I have never used a back action lock before and would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks

I have nothing useful to add, but I will be watching as this is my next project as well.

Well I ll add a few for you .
Watch your stock thickness and lines .
Only take out just enough wood for the main spring to work , don’t go to deep .
Remember  that wood is coming out of the wrist area  which makes it weak .  So having a little thicker wrist can help . If that’s not an option ,  the a longer tang can be used to help reinforce the wrist  that becomes really helpful on SXS where you end up with even less wood in the wrist . When you do  the tang bolt to trigger , keep this up forword in the bolster area of the lock , not back in the main spring area .  Again its about keeping as much wood back there as you can .
