Brass Powder Pans
« on: January 28, 2014, 03:57:32 AM »
I know  some American Military Flintlock Muskets have brass pans. When did brass pans first come into use on European guns?

Avlrc, I believe the first european brass pans were French, on their model 1777 musket and model 1777 pistol.

A close friend bought a mixed parts French musket( possibly a revolutionary war gun built from French parts) years ago, that has a musket lock that looks like a 1763 Charleville, but has a goose neck cock, and a brass pan. The lock looked older than 1763 to me, and was marked with a name that was either the builder, or the armory it was built at. The engraving was in rough shape but the name was Mabeug or something similar.

Mauberge, maybe? It is or was a French arsenal and gun making facility.
