Chambers finish on brass
« on: February 03, 2014, 06:25:11 PM »
I tried a search but could find no advice. I am finishing with Chambers oil. Looks beautiful. I wanted to finish with the patchbox, sideplate and thimbles installed so the multiple coats of finish will fill in small inletting mistakes. It seems to be working great. How do I clean the finish off the brass when done? Thank You,  Dan

I have used the same method and I have not had it build up enough to have to remove it.  It will discolor the brass a little, I personally liked the color it gave.

You can wipe it off with a q-tip dampened with a bit of alcohol or acetone.  Pull a bit of the fuzz off so it's more controllable and don't get too much solvent on it.
