First powderhorn project

I'm building a rifle that my GGG Grandfather could have carried at the time he enlisted in the Pennsylvania Militia in 1777. I've had a raw cow horn around for years, and decided to try and make a powder horn to go with the rifle. I know my ancestors had a connection with the sea, and I own a small sailing schooner, so I put a drawing of my schooner on the horn. I also put my GGG Grandfathers name and home on the horn. I tried to make a simple horn like a 16 year old farmer/ one-time cabin boy, may have had.

I haven't yet decided what pegs or pins to put in the plug. What would be most likely for this horn and time period?

Once you put a base plug in (with a knob or staple) it will be good to go.  It's clean, neat and uncomplicated and looks GOOD.

The base plug is in place now. I was wondering what pins, nails, or tacks would be right for this horn.

Iron nails or wood pegs would look good and correct for the period you have on the horn.

Whittled out and tapped in hickory plugs today. stained the ends to look old.
