Did Henry Leman send all of his rifles out west for Indian trade. Just wondering if any of these rifles ever made it to the hardware stores in Southern states like N.C. and Va to sale?  ???

Most of the Leman rifles you see today were probably sold through local hardware stores.  Those Leman rifles that went west to the Indians saw hard use and only a small percentage survived.  The few Leman rifles that show definite Indian use are highly sought after by collectors.

Henry Leman sold large quantities of guns and rifles to the Government for trade and treaty annuities.  Not all the Indians that received these rifles were in the west.  The Government made treaties with Indians throughout the country.
