ALR Meeting at Ft. Boonesborough CANCELLED
« on: March 18, 2014, 08:21:35 PM »
Unfortunately, due to many other conflicting events, including nice Spring weather, there are not enough members able to attend to make the meeting viable, so I am cancelling the event.

Hopefully we can regroup next winter at Boonesborough.

-Ron

The annual ALR Kentucky winter meeting that we had to postpone twice has been rescheduled for this Saturday, 3/22/14, from 9am to 4pm, at Ft. Boonesborough State Park, Kentucky.  Admission is free.

As of yesterday the power was not restored to the Blockhouse, but as a backup the park management has offered us the use of the Recreation Hall in the park campground.  It's a large room with plenty of tables and chairs.

All ALR members and anyone that's interested in the study, building, shooting, etc. of long rifles, horns, bags, knives, etc. is welcome.  Please bring works in progress, recently completed pieces, antiques, items for sale or trade, and anything longrifle related, etc.

In past years we've had from 10 to 15 attendees, but we can accommodate more, and we always have a great time, so please come and join us.  We usually try to have some tutorials or demo's lined up, so if anyone has any tips or how-to's they would be willing to pass along, please let me know.

This year we will be doing a side-by-side comparison of woodworking rasps.  I’m bringing my Nicholson USA 49 and 50 rasps and Noel at Liogier in France has sent a prototype rasp for us to try.  I also have 2 Iwasaki rasps lined up, but would like to have more.  Do you have another brand of rasp that works well?  The shootout is open to all brands!

In addition this year, the Fort has a portion of the Frank T. Barnes Iron Collection 1660-1860 on display in one of the cabins and will open it for us to see.  Here’s a link to the Fort and info on the Iron Collection….. http://www.fortboonesboroughlivinghistory.org/

I'll be looking forward to seeing y'all again.

I was afraid of that Mike, but we were about to run out of weekends for a "winter" meeting.

Thanks guys.  I understand.  There's just too much going on as we get into Spring.

I hate to say this, but unless I hear from a bunch of folks that want to attend, it's looking like we may have to pull the plug on this year's meeting.  I'll post a decision tomorrow.
