My first horn
« on: April 10, 2014, 01:22:06 AM »
I am fairly new to ALR and joined because I am in the planning stage of building a JP Beck.  In the meantime I have been sidetracked a bit and have made my first powderhorn under the guidance of Tim Sanner (The Original Griz).  He graciously sent me material and has instructed me in the process of making a horn.  Thanks Tim your a great instructor and it's been a great experience!

Here is the horn finally finished.  I would appreciate if you horn makers would critique it...areas of improvement, etc.  It's my first, but won't be the last...an addictive hobby!

If you build your rifle like you have built this horn then you will have a fine looking rifle ;D I like it

I don't see anything wrong with it.  Well done!  I especially like the stopper...is that made of horn too?

Thank you gentlemen for your kind words...

Mark:  Yes the stopper is made from the tip of the horn that I cut off.  Thought I'd leave it natural for a little contrast..

Wow.  That's your FIRST horn?  Very nice indeed!

Oh, and thank you and others who have done so nicely for their first horn and for ensuring I will never show pictures of my first horn I made over 40 years ago.  Grin.
