Does anyone recognize the maker?

My guess, would be it is French, but considering the bizarre photo angle, and no shot of the lock area, it could be made anywhere, by anyone.

I would say French or Belgian, anywhere from 1790-1810 based on the carving. Any more photos of the lock, sideplate, and overall shape?

I'm not sure why they're calling it American. Looks like a light European walnut stock. They say it has a two piece sideplate, which makes me think Belgian, though at this point in time the Germans occasionally did stuff like this as well (even the floral carving). I still think French/Belgian.
