Flat Buffalo Horn
« on: July 20, 2014, 07:03:49 PM »
This horn is one of a number that I got maybe a year ago. Buffalo horns are always rough but these were really rough. Turned out they were dry too. I had two smallish ones that were a close match and I decided to make a buff double horn. Always wanted to do a double horn. This one cracked when I tried to round the butt so it got shortened up. I decided to flatten it (not sure why. It already cracked on me.) and make a flat banded horn. It flattened OK but didn't look right with bands. Next idea was to make a bag or pocket horn with an applied antler tip. It has been kicking around for a couple of months now so I finished it up yesterday. I have a perfect strap for it too. Not on it yet.
Length is 10 inches overall around the OSC. The butt is 3 1/2 inches long and 1 inch wide. The butt has a horn overlay on a wooden plug. The tip and plug is antler. The strap hardware is hand forged stuff of mine.

Steve; Sir, great looking flat horn. I like the hardware added to this horn. This horn finished very well. Thanks for sharing, AJ.
