Barrel/parts browning

So, does anybody use a spring house to do their browning? When the time comes I will try it but just wondered your thoughts and ideas. Reason I ask is my new shop is located right next to the spring house, which is attached to the house. Figured why build a browning box if I have one naturally anyway! Thanks

Don't know why it wouldn't work for cold brown.  All depends on the humidty.  I've hung parts in the bathroom under the cabinets to brn stuff--worked O.K. that was in Wa. & Or. where humidty as high...Tom

Think heat and humidity, if those conditions prevail in the spring house you're good to go.

I have used lmf three times and my best result came  when I card the barrel with a rag soaked in water and hand it by a wood stove.

Just make sure droplets of water do not form on the barrel...that'll spoil the job.

If you put a cold barrel in a humid atmosphere, you'll get droplets forming on the barrel.

The spring house might work nicely. It won't be speedy, but few things in this longrifle business are speedy.

Something to keep in mind is that the rate of chemical reactions doubles with every increase of 10 degrees (C).  So if you’re in a hurry, the spring house won’t be the best place.
