Smoothbore Proofing??

New smoothbore, should it be proofed? If you proof what are your methods? Mine is a 14 gauge Rayl barrel oct/round 46 inch. I have never proofed a rifle barrel, always used quality components, never a problem.

Seems to me you are still using "quality" components with an Ed Rayl barrel!

 No need to proof a smoothbore barrel if its built by a quality builder such as Ed Rayl!. I'll also say you never have to proof a rifle barrel if built by a quality builder. Proofing was done "back in the day" because of the different qualitys of the steel they used.

I was not questioning the quality of the Rayl barrel. I believe it to be top quality. A heavy ball compared to the small rifle calibers I normally shoot. Just curious as to how other shooters approach a new barrel.  Thanks for you comment. Jame e, thanks for your reply also.
