Well, it seems to be a daily topic on here, but for you guys who like southern influenced guns check out the silver mounted pistol by Frank House on the Contemporary Makers Blog Spot.  If you like the Jacob Young rifes (which you can see on American Historic Services), take a close look at the triggers, sideplate, lock and engraving style on this pistol. It incorprates elements from the Jacob Young rifles into what a pistol by him, or at least someone in that group of makers associated with him, might have looked like.   

That is just about my favorite contemporary flint pistol I've ever seen.

Very nicely done pistol. One thing for sure, that barrel isn't going to fall out!

Take a close look at that lock - it is a work of art and looks almost like a scaled down copy of the one on the Young/Woodfork rifle, which is a very unique lock in its own right.   Frank is a master of taking a lock and making new parts, reshaping others, to make something one of a kind, so this could have started life as an off-the-shelf lock, but to me it looks like it was hand made. 

Does anyone familiar with this pistol know?

Gotta love the "Paris" mark on the barrel too - Paris, KY USA

I know the owner of the pistol, and offered him $50.00 hard cash for it - can you believe he just laughed. That pistol is a Masterpiece of any qualify for that, this is one. The lock is handmade, you won't see another like it. All we can do is look at it with admiration . Pinyone

That is one beautiful piece, and it's wonderful to be able to see it in such detail.  It's getting so that I have to check the contemporary makers site, or my day is not complete, and it just seems to get better every day.  Thanks to the Risers for making it so.

Guy  I could be wrong but isnt this the pistol made for Mel Hankla with a hand forged Barrel and Lock? I believe It was at the CLA 2years ago.

Hi Paul - I believe it is - I didn't get to see it at the show - there was one year a few years back that I had to miss the show and that might have been it.

The lock (the whole gun really) are a really great example of Frank coming up with a "what if" scenario and making it look right.  There are no known pistols by Jacob Young, but this could sure pass for one....I really love the triggers, sort of scaled down from the Whitley rifle.
