Stock repair? 1860s shotgun stock

I bought an old English 10 Ga side by side M/L shotgun from the 1860s. The barrels and locks were checked out and approved by a certified gunsmith. OK to shoot. After I disassembled it I notice that the stock has a crack starting from the breech through the lock area and stopping just short of the wrist. It does not go all the way through from side to side. I'm kind of up in the air as to how to go about fixing this gun, or should I think about restocking it. I do want to shoot this piece quite often, but I want to do it safetly.

 I had a Navy Arms upland 12 gauge years ago that I had traded into. Before shooting it I took it apart, and discovered a split vey much like you describe. I wedged the split open, and filled the split with Acri-glass, and then removed the wedge, and secured the split with a large wood screw. The screw stayed, and was hidden under the barrel tang. This being said, I wouldn't be quite so confident, had the gun been an antique, with the likelihood of some oil saturation, and being a 10 ga. to boot.
 As for restocking it, unless you have crazy skills, skip right over this idea. I knew an old gun builder, that build beautiful longrifles. He decided to build a double shotgun for himself. His family still has it, and swear that project is what killed him.

Thanks Hungry Horse. Restocking an old piece like that?? It would be a real shame to separate parts to a gun now, that have been around together for that long anyhow. Besides, what would I do with the old stock? I'd never throw it away and it would serve no other purpose. So they stay together. I'll repair it best as I can. But the very least she will be is a good wall hanger.

It can be repaired depending on exactly where the crack is , if it is at the rear end of the lock plate  remove the lock plate and drill a hole from the inside of the lock housing down into the wrist about 1 inch past the crack then take a 1/4 doweling or brass rod  the length of the drill hole using a good Lo cite glue glue this in and also the crack , clamp them up and leave to dry . I have come across several repaired this way .
