Ron Luckenbill's rifle for Lewisburg.
« on: February 03, 2015, 04:19:08 PM »
Ron and I came up with an idea for a painted rifle.  He built a really nice plain Lehigh style gun and I painted some traditional designs.  The gun then went back to Ron for finishing.  He will have it on display (and for sale) at Lewisburg on Friday.  It was a fun project.

Really love that rifle.  Brings to mind a rifle Eric Kettenburg did a few years back.  I have wanted to do something similar but just haven't gotten the nerve yet.  I need to get a bigger pair of "hickories" and just go with it.

Thanks for the nice comments about the gun.  Eric and I were talking about the recent thread on painted guns, and decided to join our talents on one.  The "canvas" for Eric's paint job is a bare bones Lehigh Valley shimmel, 42" swamped 50 cal bbl. and a L. Siler lock.  The piece of wood had a defect right at the cheek piece, so it was right for this type gun.  Eric who is very modest about his talents, did a great job of "Dutchie" painting.  The gun's finish was then antiqued and it is ready to go hunting, hang on the wall or both.   I will also have the copy of the very early wooden box Bucks Co. gun w/ the 48" 60 cal. barrel on the table.  Lexington from this board has already purchased it, but allowed me to hold the gun until the show.
I look forward to seeing many of your there.  There will be a big hole without Don being in attendance--physically.  I know his spirit will be there and will be felt with each "Don story."
See you at Lewisburg.... Ron

Thanks for the details, Ron. You are right our little room will be quite different without Don. I look forward to seeing this rifle at the show. Keep the snow away.
