Stepped Horn 2/10

  It is about 8 ¾” around the outside curve and 7” tip to tip. The vase was left in its natural shape and a Pine plug was fit, held in by 4 wood pegs. Has a nail at the base for a strap.
Lots of Rasp/file/ scraping on this one.

Tim, I like this horn. As you may have quessed from some of my posts I am always interested in the unusual. I like the way the color changes from top to bottom and the way the growth rings start showing toward the base. Two thumbs up from me!

Hey Tim..... That is another nice one, I have the first one you did that is very similar to this one. Mine has the thimble for the spout. Right now it is on display in a cabinet along with a couple of flint pistols in my living room but hopefully I want to make a nice Appalachian pouch for it. I think it will go well with an open top bag, just like the early hillbilly's made here in these southern mountains.  I love your work, you build some beautiful pieces.

Wouldn't that fascinating horn look great with one of Dennis Glazener's NC mountain rifles?   :-)

That must have been one thick horn. I appreciate all the work that must have gone into this and I like the color. Still not certain about the final horn. Hmmmmm.

  Thanks, I got the idea from a horn in Grant's Powder Horns & Their Architecture  I just added a couple more steps.
