Turvey gun details
« on: February 26, 2009, 04:36:14 AM »
I need a little input if possible.

I am beginning to work on a Chamber's English Gentleman's Rifle again.

I understand that it is loosely based on a William Turvey gun.

I found one in RCA #1, but the photos don't show any detail on the very simple, vine like carving on the sides of the buttstock.  I just can't make it out.

Does any one have, or know where to find better photos of this gun, or something similar??

Thanks again in advance.
In His grip,

Dane

There arr several related British sporting rifles in:

Author:  Neal, W. Keith (William Keith)
Title:  Great British gunmakers, 1740-1790 : the history of John Twigg and the Packington guns / W. Keith Neal & D. H. L. Back.
Publication info.:  London : Sotheby Parke Bernet Publications, c1975.

Very few have the square toe and lower butt stock molding but they are great pictures for tang carving , etc.

OK,

I just checked Amazon, and there are 3 available..... starting @ $270.

I just need to see a few photos, not buy parts for another gun.

WOW

Any cheaper ideas??

It is available at several College libraries, do a search, you may find a copy to view near you!

Your local library could probably arrange to get it for you over the interlibrary loan program.

$270 is cheap for that book. I've seen them sell for  $400
