Jacob Dubbs Inspired Schimmel
« on: March 18, 2015, 03:14:49 PM »
Inspired by the attributed work of Jacob Dubbs, North Hampton County, this Shimmel is built around a 44" Oct/Round 20 gauge/.62 caliber barrel, large Siler lock, curly maple stock, cold forged single trigger, and brass hardware. The addition of a little tang carving and some engraving may throw it out of the Shimmel category but it adds a small personal touch to the rifle. She weighs in right at 6 lbs.

That is one beautiful gun.  I sure do like a light gun and 6 pounds is nice and light.   That is a masterpiece in my eyes.  Thanks for the posting. 8)

Gregg, Very nice all the way around. The few added touches made the completion in my eyes. Keep up the fine work!

Perfect hunting rifle!

I always love the Bedford background scenery in your pics, too, reminds me of my days at Frostburg!   ;D

I think the scenery compliments my work and gives you that feeling of yesteryear. ;)

Very sharp. And the background adds to a beauty of a flintlock. Now all it needs is a good long hunting season on it

Nothing beats the feel of a handmade southern iron mounted flintlock on a cold frosty morning

Handsome rifle. I'm not sure I would call it a Schimmel but rather a fine gun without a butt plate.

...or nosecap, or entry pipe, or sideplate. It DOES have a thumbpiece, however.

I had to fight with myself not to put all those parts on. You don't know how many times through the building process I thought about going back and putting a buttplate, sideplate and nose cap on. But I stuck to my original plan and left them off. So this is my interpretation of an over the top Schimmel. ;)
