I just thought that I would show off the new men's 18th century style pocket book that I just made for myself. This is a real pocket book with four pockets that folds in the middle like a book and has a flap closure. It is made from goat skin and stained with vinegar and iron. The photos are color even though they look black and white. Those are just the colors.
I tooled every panel. The outside consists of tooled diagonal lines stamped inside with a homemade star stamp. There are some stamped triangles on the flap. That stamps was made by my grandfather decades ago from a nail. I have a couple of stamps he made like that. I also have some stamps I made as well as some store bought stamps. The inside fraktur panels are a little hard to see because the finish is so dark. I used a lot of texturing and sculpting which is kind of hard with 1/32" thick goat skin. The inside panels were done very similar to how we do carving on gun stocks. The were stamped ans then modeled or textured. The results would have been better in thicker leather.
Let me know what you think. I know I got one of the stitch lines off, but those things happen. A 18th century maker would have kept going, and so did I.
