I just finished cutting out a patch-box with a number of piercings (Medbery-NY). I usually make my drawing cut it out and glue it to the brass with Elmers for a template.
This time I heated the brass, rubbed it with beeswax and used it for the glue. It held the drawing/template and the friction of the blade softened the residual wax and lubricated the blade, smoothest cuts ever. I only used two blades for perimeter and six piercings!
