Pistol kit

I need a recommendation for an easy, relatively fast kit pistol. I'd like to make it for a friend. Not as easy as a CVA kit ( for example), and not as hard as a Chambers kit. Thanks in advance, folks.

As I recall,  Chambers Kentucky pistol kit was as easy as any kit.   However, I really don't like kits.   There is not much room for error, and I need room for my errors.

   You'll be hard pressed to find an "in between" kit between a CVA and Chambers.  Every kit I'm aware of will require the same amount of work as a Chambers kit - all will require final inletting of all parts, drilling and tapping, installing lugs and barrel pins, and final stock shaping.  Some of the less expensive kits cut corners with wood quality - one of the last pistols I did, the client supplied one of the standard precarve pistol stocks sold by nearly every company, and it might as well have been pine.  It took more work than a higher cost parts set would have.  I'm a fan of Chambers kits, but have a look at Chris Altland's kits (www.firelockpistols.com) and those by MLBS as well.

If you're looking for a -"place part "A" in hole "B", etc, try a Lyman Mountain pistol kit.  Otherwise, it is as my predecessors have stated.

Another option, if you are up to building a Chamber's kit, is the pistol offering from Brad Emig at Cabin Creek.
You haven't mentioned a period/style or lock type [ flint or percussion ] ?  If you just want a pistol that will go " Bang"
and don't care what style, the Lyman is about the best buy for the $    Is there a particular reason you are in a hurry ?

Order a pistol "in the white" from TVM or Jackie Brown.  Then you can do all the finishing yourself and get that part under your belt.

I did a Pedersoli Harper's Ferry officer's pistol a couple of years ago.  It was quite easy to build but gave me what I consider a very nice pistol.   I've had a lot of fun with it......Mick C

If you must build from a kit, you can't go wrong with Chris Altland or Jim Chambers.
