In September 1776, Duncan Beard of Cantwell's Bridge Delaware, now known as Odessa, was to create a gun-lock manufactory in the state.
https://books.google.com/books?id=ahavHZtkXVsC&pg=PA229&lpg=PA229&dq=Duncan+Beard+lock&source=bl&ots=9irodQjmQD&sig=YPF7n54tCYIB3kl9eEmUlYWxLyo&hl=en&sa=X&ei=X590VZf3CqzjsATp1YH4Dw&ved=0CCgQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=Duncan%20Beard%20lock&f=false
He is known to have been a clock-maker, silversmith, and architect of some skill, and I would like to know if any of the good folks on ALR know of any surviving examples of his locks.
According to the same reference, he was advanced payment for 70 locks, and presumably delivered them.
I am trying to search out rifle makers and locksmiths of the lower counties and it seems slow going. Any information would be helpful.
Thanks,
Morgan
