Breech Plug Bevel or Draft

At some point in the past two years I bought a swamped Rice barrel(at least I'm pretty sure it was a Rice), and the sides of the breech plug that came with it were machined to a nice taper. :)     
 
I have no idea who made that particular plug, but I can't help but wonder why ALL breech plugs aren't made the same way.    ???

Breech plugs are like a blank canvas.They all require some refining and reshaping some more than others. ;)
