What kind of Knife

I traded for this knife and have no idea what type it may be.  It has what appears to be a crown on each side in the poured pewter bolsters.   Would this be a scalping type knife or just a plain knife made for what purpose.
 Not sure of the age of the knife or who built it.  The OAL is 11 inches with a 6 1/4 inch blade length.  It has a walnut handle.

Reminds me of a green mountain camp knife shape, but bigger.  Anxious to hear what LRB says.

Kitchen knife or table knife, likely late 19th or early 20th cent...not to say similar ones were not used outdoors.

I goofed with those measurements.  I have edited my post to correct the length of the knife.

 Not all that different from an Old Hickory butcher knife, only nicer.
