advice needed on wire inlay
« on: August 22, 2015, 02:05:28 AM »
Gentlemen, I am nearing the final lap in this 'Bucks county-ish build and need to know what point is suitable for silver wire inlay. I am currently sanding with 180 grit, hardware is all set and I am trying to muster the courage to do wire inlay. Do I start now or wait until final sanding? (Or abort)?

Is it real silver or the german silver wire ?   [ flat ribbon actually ]  The G.S. just doesn't look right to my eyes.  Try a practice session on a similar chunk of wood before you dive in on your rifle. You may decide to leave the wire till the next gun. Or not  :)  Either way, you'll have your answer to your question.   My wire inlay chisels are made from pieces of thin  spring steel and a couple of jeweler's screw drivers that I filed down.

It will be silver. I will practice on scrap. What size are your chisels - tip thickness, shape, and how deep do you stab?
