My granddaughter killed a raccoon (who had been eating their laying hens) with her crossbow. I realized then that I must make her a hunting rifle. I bought a little (31 inch) 40 caliber barrel and small siler lock at Dixon's a few weeks ago, and have obtained a maple blank from Dunlap. I normally send the barrel and stock blank to Mark Weader to inlet the barrel,, and he usually shapes the buttstock to one of his patterns. This barrel and lock are intentionally small to fit her, and I doubt that Mark has a profile that can be used without leaving me too much wood to be removed. On the other hand, I do not trust myself to draw out an appropriate profile. This rifle will have no patchbox, cheek piece or such, but will be a simple full stock hunting rifle. I think a fowler profile would be very good for this. Does anyone have any good ideas of how to do this? I have drawn out one profile on a piece of poster board, but it looks too small, and I do not want to ruin my stock. (or waste my money and time.) Thanks in advance.
