New Don Bruton 50 cal
« on: March 12, 2019, 05:30:43 AM »
Walnut stock, L&R Queen Anne lock, Rice 42” barrel, all other iron and trigger were made by Don.  Bought the barrel from Troy at Stonewall Outfiiters.  It was a 44” barrel cut to 42” at the breech end and breeched by Troy.  Balances very well.  The front site is made from a silver dollar my daddy carried most of his life and all of mine.  Took delivery about 5 weeks ago but haven’t been able to get to the range yet as I am getting over torn ligaments in ankle.  Will be able to shoot it in the next couple weeks.

I love it even if it is wrong sided. That should make a good strong hunting rifle. I really like the simple iron southern patch boxes that Don puts on his rifles ;D
Nothing beats the feel of a handmade southern iron mounted flintlock on a cold frosty morning

You’ll get many years of great service from this fine rifle. I’ve always enjoyed seeing Don’s work. No nonsense rifles with great architecture.

That's a rifle I could love.  If the lock were on the other side it would be perfect.

What is the meaning of the side plate engraving? Joshua 25:14?

I thought when looking at the 25:14 that it might been a verse from the Bible but after looking there is no Verse 25:14.
I would like to know the meaning also...?

I sent Don 25:14 while working and distracted.  It should be 24:15.  Don put exactly what I sent.  It’s my fault.  I’m paying Don to fix or replace plate.

Gee that is a gorgeous piece of art.  Everything works together.  Too bad it is left handed and not mine!   :-)   God Bless,   Marc

I had the pleasure of seeing that gun come together. I have no doubt you'll enjoy it for many years. Don and I guessed that silver dollar must have been your father's lucky charm. He must have rubbed it 1000s of times. Congratulations on a fine gun.
