Browning the barrel - Should I do it before or after I put the sights on?  Or, does it matter?  Gary.

After, so it won't be in the way of carding - unless you are soldering the sight on as with a smoothbore.

I fit the sights then remove them to brown.Browning them off allows me to get a more even finish particularly around where the sights go.Also allows me to neuralize the browning in the dovetails.

If using iron sights I sight it in in the white and then brown. I brown to slight pitting and am not looking for a smooth uniform brown carding around sights with old tooth brush. I expect the browning to rust weld the sights in place.

Rusting sights in place, in my book, not good enough - one little bump!!!

Center punch each corner of the sight base and scribe a  fine line from the sight base to the top flat and you will then be able to tell if the sight moved even a frog hair!! :)

Roger I do the punch and mark think at sighting in and then brown. I don't want to be one of the guys asking for miracle glue to put my sight back on.
