Numbers five and six bags.
« on: August 16, 2015, 07:22:57 PM »
These are two last two bags that I made.  The first is oil tanned bison with a hair on bison flap, lined with wool trade cloth.  Front and back accessory pockets.  The one in front could carry balls.  Sewn with waxed linen with about a 1 1/4 inch bison strap. This one goes with my Sibley Audobon inspired buffalo horn.  I think Mariano would have liked it.

This second one is made of bark tanned deer with a hair on bear flap.  I call it the bear's butt bag because the tail hangs down on the flap.  This one is still under construction, and I have not decided which type of strap to use; leather or cotton.  It also has an internal ball pocket and an external front pocket for flints and tools.  I intend to cut the fringe off short and do some embroidery on the yoke.  It is lined with Belgian linen and sewn with waxed linen as well.  This one goes with my Sibley southern horn and my Mike Davis Woodbury school rifle.

I'm open to constructive criticism but I feel like  I'm improving.  Slowly and painfully.

I appreciate that Boyd.  Either these bags are too good for words or too bad for words because everyone here seems speechless!

I think the point is do you like them and do you think you put forth your best effort. We all know what opinions are like. And every ones an expert who will say how non-period correct this is or how Daniel Boone never had white thread. (you know what I mean). I like your bags. I like that you took the time to be creative and then open yourself up to scrutiny. All art is subjective, the eye of the beholder as it were. Keep swinging and when you sleep well knowing you cut no corners you will have learned grasshopper. I left reply on "for sale" site. looking forward to hearing from you.
