John Dreisbach question
« on: March 15, 2009, 06:26:01 AM »
I'm thinking of doing a Dreisbach next, using Dave Kecks pattern and castings.

The gun would be a small caliber, probably a 44" .32 Rice A weight. What would be the appropriate lock for this gun?

Thanks,
Bill

I've been thinking the same thing. The only picture I  can find is p.32 of Pa. Longrifles of Note by Shumway. The lock looks very much like a small Siler with a slightly less pointed tail. Sideplate looks just like Keck's. At least a zillion inlays. Your welcom to come and see it.

Chambers late Ketland is perfect, or L&R Bailes for a small barrel. Round the tail.

Thanks Bill,   Dave told me the same thing. The last 3 guns I built used the Late Ketland, southern style guns.  I was sort of getting tired of that lock, but if it's the right one....number 4.

Thanks,
Bill

Nate, I don't know if you were there , but the CLA Lewisburg show had a ton of Upper Susquehanna stuff. It's in that area. You would think more people would build these.

Bill and Nate,

Edith Coopers book, KY Rifle and Me, have numerous upper susquehanna guns pictured.  Everything but a Dreishbach. But they are all very similar.  When you come to the shop remind me to let you see it.  I also have an original Fillman that you can look at .
