That was a fascinating tutorial. Last time I bought caps they were 50 cents a tin of 100. I have long since gone over to the dark side with rock locks. It always amazes me of the ingenuity of the BP community.

NOW is the time to stock up,,hunting season is over so they go on clearance,,I buy all I can now for later....WalMart has been my best source in the past.

Go to the dollar store and buy the 6 shooter cap gun caps 100 for 99 cents works just the same in fact I have a couple packs in fact I have some in my food storage

Apparently there is a guy named Kevin the cap maker who is selling a Tap-A-Cap clone.

I believe the main problem with supply is they fall under "Hazmat" regulation and fees.

I saw caps available recently, all 100-count tins...

Tin of #10: $5.00
Tin of #11: $6.00
Tin of Musket caps: $7.00

Bought a couple of each.

Should probably have bought even more. I had paid $9 per tin of musket caps a few days before... My thought is, buy a few tins at a time, every time.

Cabela's has them at $55.00 per 1000. Remington is $78.00 per 1000.

I got 1,000 caps from Cabelas. They should last me a few years. I've enjoyed reading the many responses to this post.

I guess i'm lucky. The local gun shop carries the CCI mag caps for $6.00, and is never out. He also carries the RSW musket caps for $8.00.

I gave up trying to talk him into carrying BP.

I have always used the 1075 caps from RWS. Well, not always always, but always like for the last 40 years. I cannot recall ever having a mis-fire when I have done my job correctly. I was not really happy when they dropped the 1055 cap, as they worked really well on revolvers.
When you bought a case of 100,000, they came packed in a neat wooden box. Made wonderful storage boxes, but they come in cardboard boxes now. Too bad. Each container of 100 came in a metal container, now they are plastic. I guess we can mark that all up as "progress". Or it might have something to do with HazMat shipping rules, not sure.
I am probably down to about 3 or 4 rolls (1,000) of caps in my inventory right now. With the amount I have been shooting the last little while, sorry to say, that is probably a life time supply.

Yes, it sure is.

But the fact of the matter is I was selling them also. I probably went through half a dozen cases of 100,000 a year.

That is exactly why they make half stocked " FLINT " plais rifles.

Those Hawken boys kept the best for themselves, they were just sellin' those percussin guns to the pilgrims.

I researched until I was blue in the face. I couldn't find any Hawken half stock flinters. If you have any info on it i'd appreciate seeing it.

Look on Track of The Wolf under guns then flintrifles. Great plains Rifles.by Lyman in stock. Not exactly my cup of tea but there you are.

I'm talking about the real Hawken built by the Hawken Bros.

I know there's plenty of replicas that are a far cry for the real guns. They don't interest me much.
