Nothing wrong with a mineral streak or two.  Like you said, it adds character.

I used to avoid blanks with darker heartwood. The color difference does not matter much after the gun has been stained. And it adds visual interest, in my opinion.

But the norm these days is to use the pure white sapwood only. I think a seller of kits would avoid discoloration in stock wood to reduce his chances of a stock being returned.

More than likely that "mineral streak" is colored by the inclusion of iron oxides in the wood.  The iron probably came from a nail that was driven into the tree while it was alive.

The stains we use are also iron oxide.  Don't be too surprised if that streak becomes barely visible once the rifle is stained and finished.

I got a very dark, hard walnut blank from Dunlap with a number of mineral streaks.  I think they are an asset.  Dan, at Dunlap told me about them before I bought the blank.  I suggest you continue with your build and appreciate the character of the stock. I believe we are more particular today about such things than they ever were in the old days.

Mineral streaks are nothing but good.  Like others have said, they add character to the rifle.  Some vendors degrade a stock like that to a 'second' - that's crazy!  It'll all but disappear when it is stained, and it adds interest and character to the rifle/fowling piece.  And remember, great stock wood doesn't grow on trees!

many years ago I filed into a rotten spot on the toe of a gunstock,
 after digging it out I found a .22 bullet.
Lucky for me the toe plate covered it.
