Dove tail jig ?

Is there some one on here that sells a Dove Tail Jig?  Thanks  Ken B

There are various ways to cut dove tails but I have never heard of a particular jig.   I made a stop for my hacksaw blade to use in removing most of the material in the slot, and ground a special chisel to lift the dovetail after filing it.    You can buy sight base files from Brownells to cut the 60 degree dovetail by hand.     If you have a milling machine,  then you just use a dovetail cutter after using a straight mill.   I guess there are lots of little jigs and special tools to do the job, but I never heard of just a dovetail jig.  Did you hear of such a thing somewhere.?

There is or at least used to be one.  I don't know where I got it, it was several years ago.  It is essentially a section of hollow square steel stock that has a guide cut in the top and sides.  It slips over the end of the barrel and is tightened in place with a thumb screw on the bottom side.  It is really not worth the effort and I use Mark's way now except that I do have a chisel to use to lift the dovetail after filing it.   http://www.trackofthewolf.com/List/Item.aspx/1029/1

You can use the jaws on your vise as a guide. Lay out your dovetail on your barrel, then level it in your vise with the Barrel flat the same height above the jaws as the depth of your dovetail. After you
hacksaw and rough file the slot,take your 3 corner file and file down until the file rubs on both vise jaws
at the same time, from one end of the slot to the other. At this point your slot should be level and flat
without any dips or low corners. Pay attention to your layout lines to make sure your not going to deep.
When you have the depth you want you can use your safe side file or chisel to put your angle on the ends.
