Made a trigger guard

Made one for my poor boy 40 cal gets barrel gun and it SUCKS!  The guard is too long because i measured wrong. Had a track book to go by and still messed it up..lol  may just buy one or try another. Made from an old iron bolt i found in a barn. It may have worked if i had not made it so tall..owell..

You can fix that one somewhat by cutting the front of the bow down and reattaching to the front return.  I would (and have) mess around with that one until you get what you want, then if you desire you can make another one that is closer to "perfect".

Yes I think bgf has it right, and while your at it you can lower the rear a little bit too. Then if you still dont like it you can do it over with this one as a reminder pattern.

My good friend BGF told me once that when you're making something by hand (or forge) you have to make 3.  The first one you're just figuring things out, the 2nd you learn a little more, and the 3rd one is the charm.

Nice effort though.   Too long and the trigger bow looks to me like it needs to shrink about 20%.

If you take a piece of wire and bend it to the right size you can use it to measure your forging. The wire pattern will help with height and length. Old coat hangers work great.

The easiest way to get the exact size and shape you want is with a simple bending block  with 3 bolts for the front tang and 4 bolts for the bow.

Won't be before 2017. Got to figure out how to do the chizeled barrels and the furniture. I've got a pair of barrel blanks from Burton , to experiment on. The wood I bougth from you is the nicest blank I've seen sofar. Don't want to mess it up. This years main project are the brace of swedish officer pistols.
