Excellent approach Jerry.   Isolate the area to be soldered and uniform and firm pressure on the joint.  The result will be stellar.

Love the gravity clamp.

Jewelers often use a charcoal block to solder upon. The charcoal insulates and helps absorb some of the oxygen, allowing cleaner, faster soldering. The charcoal does get a depression where it's been heated. But it can be scrubbed flat and square at any time during its useful life.

In this instance the parts were sprayed with an anti-oxidant before being brought to high temp.
The gray looking scale was removed in a sulfuric acid bath after being soldered.
This trigger guard  will be inlaid and overlaid with multi colored gold rococo floral designs and then heat blued. Don't ask the price.

Of course, it will, Jerry - stellar (as in out of this world) - as usual.
