I can't add anything that hasn't already been said but would like to say thank you for your most generous efforts and also say what a great looking gun for such a great cause.

First and foremost let me say that this is a very worthy cause. If you think you understand what our men and women go through visit HFH , I know you will be in for a suprise. With that being said it is wonderful to see the guns built and donated to this worthy cause. I apologize up front if this sounds selfish, it is not meant to be. I happen to be one of the original builders of the first 4 flintlocks donated to HFH but my donation always fails to be mentioned, not sure why that is, although I have my suspicions. It could be that my gun strays from the traditional,  but I doubt that. The guns that were built had many people donate partsand time, in fact I believe there were extra parts after the builds were completed.  Mine however had no donors,  the entire build was out of my pocket.  Not one penny of parts or time came from anyone but myself. Again, I am not looking for a pat on the back, I just find it a hard pill to swallow. Now that I've got that off my chest, let us not forget the main purpose is that our heros have a great hunt and a great time.
I must tell you however, that being left out of program that I took great pride in participating in leaves me with a very bitter taste in my mouth. Once again, I apologize if this sounds selfish, I assure it's not meant to be. I just stand high on principle and fair is fair after all.

I just returned home from the HFH event, had to leave early, and they'll be out hunting again tomorrow.  Incredible time, and I can't say enough about the character and fortitude of the participating Vets.

Dave, you'll like this, the guy using this rifle took a small buck and a Doe today.  He's a Navy Corpsman.  Bravo Zulu, indeed!

SBachner, the dark areas on the stock were created with tints applied after the wood was stained.  The areas were "feathered" by rubbing with a scotch brite pad.

Goose, don't know what to say....  Post some photos of the piece you built, I'm sure the Forum would enjoy seeing them.

 Thanks, all!

Not really anything to say Ed. Your a gentleman and im proud to know you. My problem is that when Bill mentioned the guns being built and donated, he says he built the 1rst 2 and you built the 3rd. How is it  that he didnt mention the 4th gun built by the other guy standing in  the room when the guns were handed over to Mindy at HFH? Again, I stand on principal, either everyone should get mention and credit, or no one should. Mindy asked me to build a 5th gun a few months later. Unfortunately I could not afford at that time to do the build out of pocket again. I approached Bill as to how he felt I should handle it, hoping he would use his contacts for donations and discounts on parts, that however didn't happen . Instead he suggested that I build the gun for the price of parts and donate my time. I presented that proposal to Mindy, but it was not accepted. Later down the road when 2more guns were needed,  you and Mitch did the builds with donated parts and discounted parts. As I mentioned before, this whole situation leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth, especially when you consider I also donated a liberty safe when they said they were in need of  one. Please understand that my displeasure is not with HFH, Mindy and John are wonderful people. In any case, I'm glad to hear that the soldiers had a good time.

Ed , as far as posting pics of my gun and saying my name is xxxxx and this is the gun I donated to HFH, that is not the point at all. My issue is not that no one got to see my gun or hear my name, again my problem is with fairness to all who contributed. Please don't feel my displeasure is with you or Mitch, I assure it is not. You are both to be commended for donating your time and talents. It would be a wonderful thing if more people could get involved with organizations that benefit our sevice men and women. To all those following this post, please forgive me if it sounds like iI'm beating a dead horse, I just feel there's a point to be made here.

(Note from Moderator: The reply below was posted in Gun Building as a stand-alone post.  I was puzzled at first, then I realized this post was related to this thread, so I moved it here. -Ron)

Wayne did build us a beautiful left hand gun 3 or 4 years ago.   It was the 4 gun built.  We do appreciate and value the gun highly.   My apologies for not mentioning it.   I was counting right hand guns and my desire to have 6 right hand guns here for our organization.   That gun is being used this hunt as we have a soldier who is left eye dominant.    He hasn't scored yet but is having a great time.

Goose, point made, and I'm not sure anyone here can do anything to make it better.  As Ed suggested, you could post photos of your build as others have done, and I am sure you'd receive the thanks of members here for your contribution.  Let me be the first- what you did for others was beyond generous; such generosity of spirit and caring is exemplary for us all.

Rich, once again it seems that the point has been missed. It would seem that I'm upset at not being acknowledged for my contributions,  and to some extent you're correct. The problem lies not with a lack of recognition for me, but how it was handled from the start, but I guess when one has an personal agenda, these situations will eventually surface.
I thank everyone for putting up with my posts, and I give you all my word that you've heard the last from me concerning this issue. This is after all a forum for gun building, and sharing ideas about the art.
