Rust blue
« on: February 02, 2016, 05:29:15 AM »
Just rust blued a pistol barrel and oiled it
Now I wish I'd put a few more coats of rust solution on it it's kinda transparent
Can I just degrease then re rust or do I have to strip bac to bare metal?

Stan, if you degrease it completely you should be able to rust it some more without going to bare metal.

"transparent blue" was a trade option in the past.

I have "interrupted" the process before with no problems. I was in the process of rust bluing gun parts and had about four rust sessions done but not the color I was looking for yet. I was forced to stop for over a week and then came back to finish the parts. I oiled them prior to leaving and simply degreased and started again. No problems.
