Just to prove I haven't been slacking all winter, just wrapped up one. Been wanting to build something along the lines of the Peter Berry Sr gun in the "Art and Evolution of the Longrifle" book since I first saw it, love the carving and the lines of the big butt. Changed a few things to suit my goals and sensibilities, of course. 38" Oct/Rnd Colerain barrel, .58 rifled. Marty's Maple plank, hand inlet barrel and ramrod, L&R Queen Anne lock with nose and tail modifications, Aquafortis, Chambers oil finish. 13 1/8" pull, 6 3/4 lb weight. Light to carry but packs a punch, going to be my bigger game gun for carrying up hills for bears and if I ever get west for elk.

And I still can't bring myself to do the Berry patchbox, but did a wood one instead. First wood box actually.

Feel like I did pretty good, definitely my best yet, but comments welcome...

Now this is beautiful. One of the best schools there was. Outstanding stain color and the cheekside carving is very creative and just right. GOOD JOB !!!

Oh you did an outstanding job.Gotta love those big butts.Also helps with the recoil factor.Also like the oct to round barrel to help with the weight

Hi Osprey,
That is one of the rifles I intend to build very soon. I'll use a 45" barrel and reproduce the brass patch box. You did a good job. It would be nice to see a good profile shot because this gun is all about the unique architecture used by Berry Sr. Well done,

Thanks all for the comments! I hope that the next pics of her are in the fall proving my signature line below.

Smartdog, looking forward to seeing yours, especially with the longer barrel. I like the 38" barrel for how I'll use it, but that profile/flair did make it hard to keep slim through the lock area. Shortening that QA lock to get closer to Berry's also makes it look even stubbier there than it is. But you only end up in a 4' blind with a 5' gun so many times before you try a shorter barrel!!
