...and here's the flint Hawken I finished at the same time as the percussion rifle.  This one has a parallel 1 x .50 cal Douglas barrel that I also bobbed.  It was 40" when received and had been built into a very poor rifle. I salvaged it, filling all of the dovetails, and cut 4" from the muzzle and 1/4" from the breech.  The finished rifle weighs 9 pounds 6 oz.  The lock is a L & R Ashmore lock...great sparker!!

Dave Rase inlet the barrel and drilled the hole for me.
















I have a few more images I want to share, but have other obligations currently...more later.

Nice gun as I would expect. Only problem is it ain't near slabby enough....I have seen several original fullstock Hawken guns and they were all slab sided as a gun could get....I much prefer yours. ;D

Interesting observation Mike.  Dave Rase cut the barrel channel and drilled the hole (3/8"), and he gave me the usual nice thin web.  The hole is exactly what I asked for.  But this rifle really needed at least a 1/4" web to get the depth in the forestock that is typical of originals.  This one ended up more like a Kentucky rifle in the forestock.  And the other result is a more rounded stock too.  But it feels good in the hand.

Taylor, I like this one even better than the percussion rifle.  Such graceful lines!  Even if David Rase is to blame for that....

Another great looking rifle.  I admire your workmanship.  I am using this rifle as inspiration to prioritize getting my in the white fullstock Hawken out of the rack and on the bench and completed.
