Got some folk art stuff going on.....this will go on a cheeck piece
The cheeck piece has a swale in it, not really flat, so to make a flat inlay fit I secure it with pins, then tap into a rough shape with a hard small block of wood, this doesn't mar the surface
The piece was annealed before hand and bends quite easily. The sides were beveled and I'm ready to install it. The inspiration of this can be found in volume 5 of the Ohio Gunsmiths and Allied Tradesman, Lemuel Brown on page 99. It is going on this rifle
Got the piece inletted, and it stands a little proud....now I am wanting to make another that I am going to inlet into the very corner of the but on the cheeck piece side and the inspiration is a rifle built by Isaac Bridges, volume 5 of the Ohio Gunsmith and Allied Tradesmen, page 15. I draw out the design o paper, place it on the gun where want it to be. If it looks okay, I ten glue it to a piece of brass, cut it out later and install it. The design concept is leaves, flowers and tendrils flowing from a shell like item. I will need to make the leaves and flowers (tulip shapes). these will be connected by wire inlay.
I use white glue to secure the paper pattern, then I cut and file to shape, then anneal it. Leaves should be easy patterns to make, butI need to make the patterns for the tulips.
