New reprints
« on: March 31, 2009, 05:23:00 PM »
This little blurb was included in Cornell Publications monthly newsletter.

"I am very excited to announce that Jim Whisker has generously allowed me to reprint his Gunsmiths of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania - rare copies of which, from the original publication, sell for over $100 when you can find one. We have also finished his updated Gunsmiths and Allied Professions of Philadelphia (2009) by James Whisker (photos will be up on the website soon soon for this one), Virginia Gunsmiths and Allied Professions by James Whisker and Virginia Martial Arms 1650-1835. Jim promises more to come!"

For the most part, these are facsimile copies, not fancy, hardbound printed books.  She prints them "on order" individually.

Are you referring to Jim Whiskers book, "Gunsmiths of Lancaster and York Counties, Pennsylvania"

I refer to nothing except to pass on the quote from the Cornell newsletter.  For further information, check the website for yourself.

I just placed an order for all 4 books.  They run from $19.95 to $24.95.  They are in color on glossy paper.  Look for "new editions" at the top of the website and then search for Whisker.

Color????  I don't think he's ever published anything in color before!
When a reenactor says "They didn't write everything down"   what that really means is: "I'm too lazy to look for documentation."

That's great.  I've been looking for the Lancaster and Philly books for some time now and was kicking myself for passing on a copy of the Lancaster book at $85 through ABE (I have a big chunk of it that I scanned from the library though).  Also, there seems to be very little published on Philly makers, so I am looking forward to that one.  I just talked with someone there and they are soft cover books and not facsimile copies.  They are also all 4 newly revised versions.  The other two they currently have are VA gunsmiths and VA Martial Arms.  The woman I spoke with said they were eventually going to offer most of Whisker's 'popular titles'.

Thanks for passing on that heads-up.  I ordered a copy of the Lancaster book.
