Blackpowder source areound Bedford PA?
« on: March 27, 2009, 12:12:35 AM »
I have a client living near Bedford, PA that needs a place to buy real black powder.   He said the the only thing he could find was Jim Shockey's gold, which isn't going to work in his flintlock.  I would appreciate a source or two to pass on to him.   Thanks   Ron

Has he thought about ordering it?  I had the same problem and have been getting mine from powderinc.com.  There are others but I've not tried them.

Jeez Ron help the guy out! ;D

A client of yours HAS shoot that fine rifle a lot!  Suggest he go on line or whatever to Graf's Inc. They will sell 5 10 20lb or a full case decent price also deliver to his door! They would also mix 2 and 3 f or 4 for that matter!

Also try Maine Powder House and Jack's Powder Keg. Both will deliver direct to your door.

If he can make it as far North as Altoona, I could bring some to him.  I often make the drive down to Altoona to take my boys to the trains and could bring him what he wants.  Would appreciate any input as to there being any legal problems with this.  It might cost him as much to drive to Altoona as it would to pay the hazmat charges+ the aggravation of driving in Altoona! >:(  But, I can help out if he needs it.  I buy from RMC sports in Mingoville, PA(at least I did pre-Obama before most stuff went out of my reach).  I think his Goex is still reasonable but will double check.   Chris

Has your client tried the Juniata Trading Co. on rte. 30 at Everett ? Their web site isn't working. Their phone # 652-5878 . If they don't carry BP , try a web search for "sporting goods , Everett, PA".

Ron,
If the Juniata Trade Company in Everett doesn't have black powder it's just another 50 minute ride to Chambersburg, PA.  Both Fort Chambers (717) 263-2223 and The Conococheague Trade Company (717) 352-7212 have black powder.  I'm pretty sure the Keystone Country Store in Ft. Loudon, PA (717) 369-2970 has powder as well.

Juniata does carry it, got two cans of Goex there this fall when I went through, think it was $16 a can.  You must ask for it, they've got it in the back in a safe.

Hendershots in Hancock, MD, just off rt 70, has it as well, but again you've got to ask for it.  I think they were at $20 a lb can.  I try to pick some up whenever I go through the area.

Thanks for the sources guys,  I passed several on to the guy.  I don't think he wants to order by mail, just yet.
I appreciate all your efforts on this request.
