I see a hooked breech flintlock today on the Contemporary blog. When did these first appear?  I thought this was a percussion era detail, but it seems I'm mistaken.  Can I start making 1750's with it ;)

The English were using hooked breeches in the 1720's. When it caught on over here I don't know.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Broken....If you look closely at that fancy "Verner" rifle, it appears to have a hook breech.  I'm not certain if is or not....

There are quite a few in RCA with what appear to be hooked breeches - particulary in Volume II.
